Haliburton Highlands Club

We are a growing and active club of about 64 members, both couples and singles. The Friendship Force – Haliburton Highlands began in 2007. We strive to have 2 outbound and 2 inbound exchanges annually, hosting preferably in February, June or September. We are an enthusiastic club and we take every opportunity to make your Highlands experience a memorable one.  We are an active group of people, both couples and singles who enjoy travelling and hosting. 

The Haliburton Highlands is located midway between Toronto and Ottawa about 2 hours north of Toronto. The area is known as “Cottage Country” and offers 4 seasons of outdoor splendour. With Algonquin Park (http://www.algonquinpark.on.ca/) on the northern border and Muskoka Ontario (http://www.traveltomuskoka.com/) on the west, the Haliburton region is quickly being discovered by nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.

The area has an abundance of lakes, rivers, trees and Canadian shield rock formations and is the perfect spot to attract cottagers and retirees. With the surge of interest in winter outdoor recreation and popularity of the magnificent fall colours the Haliburton Highlands has become a 4-season destination.

The County of Haliburton has two major villages; the Village of Haliburton and the Village of Minden. There are over 600 named lakes and plenty of trails for hiking/walking in the summer and skiing and snowshoeing in the winter.

 Our journeys usually begin with a welcome lunch, breakfast or potluck. Tours of the fish hatchery, wolf centre, artisan studios, the sculpture forest, and the white-water canoe/kayak preserve are a few of our highlights. In the warm weather boat rides, canoeing, kayaking and swimming in one of our lakes are favourites. Small group dinners and large group get togethers round out the visit. Our winter journeys usually include dog sledding, tobogganing, a horse drawn sleigh ride, curling and lessons in cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Some have even tried ice fishing and playing in the snow.
